HANYS is growing its health equity collaborative thanks to new funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.

With continued support from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, HANYS will extend its health equity collaborative, Advancing Healthcare Excellence and Inclusion, through 2023. The year-end 2022 renewal of the AHEI grant will allow HANYS to provide participating New York hospitals with education and technical assistance to identify and address healthcare disparities in their communities.

Year one: Better data collection and stronger partnerships

Launched in 2022, AHEI has been instrumental in helping New York hospitals and health systems enhance their health equity work. Their virtual learning series helped participants collect more accurate patient demographic data and offered a road map to help them build and strengthen community partnerships, while their virtual showcase provided an opportunity for participants to share successes and learn from their peers.

“We’re glad we participated in the HANYS’ Advancing Healthcare Excellence and Inclusion learning collaborative,” said SBH Health System participants Ninfa Segarra, senior vice president, communications and external affairs, community and government affairs and chief diversity officer, and Alvin Lin, vice president, ambulatory care transformation and innovation. “We enjoyed discussing best practice ideas with the expert faculty and other hospital partners.”

Year two: Direct support and a focus on diversity, equity and inclusion

2022 program participants are returning in 2023 to build on their progress, and they’ll be joined by several new hospitals. Expert faculty will provide coaching while project managers will work with hospitals as they conduct health equity assessments and complete projects that reflect organizational and community priorities. New this year, cost-reimbursable stipends of $20,000 each will be available to help fund targeted projects co-led by hospitals and their community partners.

Meanwhile, AHEI’s two upcoming virtual learning series, open to all HANYS members, will focus on diversity, equity and inclusion best practices and improving the collection of patient demographic data.

More details on 2023 programming, including virtual learning series dates and registration, are coming soon to the AHEI webpage.

HANYS is proud to have received awards from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation that have supported hospital COVID-19 emergency relief, health disparities initiatives and hospital and home care collaboration. We thank the foundation for its continued partnership in improving healthcare for all New Yorkers.
