STATEMENT FROM HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK STATE PRESIDENT DANIEL SISTO REGARDING GOVERNOR’S HEALTH CARE VETOES

“These vetoes will hurt literally every New Yorker by further diminishing emergency room capacity and driving more ER doctors to other states.  The unconscionable reality is that these vetoes aren’t even about New York  -  they’re about establishing the Governor’s ‘conservative’ credentials with voters in Iowa and New Hampshire.”

“It’s no secret our health care facilities and emergency rooms are facing a critical shortage of doctors and nurses.  The funding Governor Pataki vetoed would have helped provide those staff. Now we actually have less funding available than we did last year.  He has compounded the crisis and put every community at greater risk.”

“How does the Governor explain to the mother of a sick child who will now have to wait to see an ER doctor that the voters in Iowa and New Hampshire are more important than her baby’s needs?  George Pataki has abandoned New York, he’s abandoned his governorship of this state. It’s utterly indefensible.  We don’t believe the members of the Legislature will allow this recklessness, and we urge them to immediately override these vetoes.”
