STATEMENT FROM HEALTHCARE ASSOCIATION OF NEW YORK STATE PRESIDENT DANIEL SISTO REGARDING THE GOVERNOR’S REFUSAL TO IMPLEMENT THE ENACTED HEALTH CARE BUDGET
“Governor Pataki’s startling unilateral action to defy the enacted state budget is tremendously troubling. The people who rely most on our hospitals, emergency rooms, and nursing homes—our children and elderly—will once again be the ones who will suffer from his devastating cuts.
“Governor Pataki has in effect deigned himself as the sole budget making authority in the State of New York—an approach quite inconsistent with our understanding of the Constitution and the principle of the separation of powers. We are therefore obligated to litigate and fight for our hospitals, our nursing homes, and our patients.”
