HANYS and HTNYS Urge Members to Promote Organ Donation Registration
ALBANY, N.Y. - In recognition of National Donate Life Month, the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) has partnered with Healthcare Trustees of New York State to reach out to its member hospitals and health systems, trustees, auxiliaries, and community health prevention and outreach programs, urging institutions to highlight the need for more New Yorkers to enroll in the state's organ donation program.
"Last year, more than 1,500 New Yorkers received kidneys, livers, and hearts that had been donated for transplantation, but more than 10,000 are still waiting," said HANYS President Daniel Sisto. "We are calling on our vast network of health care providers to encourage their workers, patients, and community members to enroll in the New York State Organ and Tissue Donor Registry, and help save lives."
New York State residents can enroll in the New York State Organ and Tissue Donor Registry online, or through the Department of Motor Vehicles when applying for or renewing a driver's license or non-driver identification card. By being enrolled, family consent is not required to carry out your wishes to be an organ, eye, or tissue donor.
The American Hospital Association is also coordinating nationwide efforts with Donate Life America.
