Statement by HANYS President Daniel Sisto on Congressional Proposals to Reduce Medicaid Spending
"HANYS strongly opposes efforts by Republican leaders in Congress to cut Medicaid spending to pay for extending Stafford student loan interest rates. The proposal to reduce allowable Medicaid provider tax assessments from 6% to 5.5% would cause significant harm to patient care in New York State."
"Our hospitals and health systems are under extreme financial stress and already face more than $16.4 billion in cuts over the next nine years under the Affordable Care Act, and another $2.2 billion in cuts under the Budget Control Act sequestration. Any further reductions would directly impact patient care and threaten our already precarious safety net."
"HANYS and our members urge Congress and the Administration to reject any cuts to Medicare or Medicaid, which would weaken our health care system and reduce access to essential health care services for Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries–and all New Yorkers. Health care has already been cut too much and cuts to health care must not be the source of funding to pay for restorations in any other program."
