CMS Proposed Rule for Acute Care and Critical Access Hospitals on Infection Prevention and Antibiotic Stewardship

August 10, 2016

Registration for this event is open to HANYS' Members Only.

4 - 5 p.m.

This webinar will highlight proposed revisions to the The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) infection prevention and control, and antibiotic stewardship program requirements for hospitals, including Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs).

CMS is proposing important revisions to the infection prevention and control CoPs for all hospitals and would also replace current infection control requirements for CAHs to “further clarify existing requirements and update regulatory language to reflect state-of-the-art practices and terminology.”

The proposed rule includes a new requirement for hospitals and CAHs to develop and maintain an antibiotic stewardship program “as an effective means to improve hospital antibiotic-prescribing practices and curb patient risk for possible deadly Clostridium difficile infections, as well as other future, and potentially life-threatening, antibiotic-resistant infections,” CMS stated in the preamble to the rule.
