APR-DRGs Impact Analysis - Web Conference

December 17, 2009

10 am - Noon

This Webconference will address the rumors and myths surrounding the impact of All Patient Refined Diagnosis Related Groups (APR-DRGs) while supplying quantitative analysis of case-mix index (CMI) change and the impact on various services.

APR-DRGs Impact Analysis will provide answers to questions such as:

  • Is it really true that it will take two hours to chart each claim for APR-DRGs?
  • Why is CMI projected to decrease by one-third for many hospitals?
  • Should I increase, and potentially double, the number of coded diagnoses?
  • Are there certain services that will be impacted more than others?

Faculty will discuss the APR-DRG methodology and will present a statewide impact analyses resulting from regrouping every inpatient discharge through both the All Patient (AP)-DRG and the APR-DRG grouper. Best practices will be shared and discussion will include scenarios of comparable services with significantly different projected reimbursement.

This session is a precursor to a more in-depth hospital-specific analysis to be offered at a Data Academy session on March 24, 2010. Issues discussed during the December 17 Webconference will be explored further with hospital-specific profiles at the March 24 session.
