Because hospitals and health systems will remain at heightened risk of Medicare and Medicaid cuts this year, members are strongly encouraged to come to Washington for HANYS’ Federal Briefing and congressional reception.

This is an important and timely opportunity to meet with New York Congressional Delegation members and focus on advocacy to protect New York’s hospitals and health systems from Medicare and Medicaid reductions in the name of offsetting a Medicare physician fee schedule fix, deficit reduction efforts or any other reason, and federal fiscal year (FFY) 2013 budget proposals.

While these events represent a way for you to visit with your members of Congress informally on Tuesday evening, we encourage you to schedule formal office visits on Wednesday. HANYS is not coordinating the scheduling of these visits.

Agenda

• Federal Briefing: From 4 to 5 p.m., HANYS will host a briefing on Capitol Hill that will focus on federal advocacy priorities, including Medicare and Medicaid reductions to hospitals and health systems, and the federal fiscal year 2013 federal budget. Guest speaker Catherine Stetson, Partner at HoganLovells, will provide an overview of the pending legal challenges to the Affordable Care Act before the U.S. Supreme Court. The briefing will take place in Congressional Meeting Room South in the Capitol Visitor Center.
• Reception for NYS Congressional Delegation: On the evening of May 8, join HANYS and New York’s allied associations for light refreshments on Capitol Hill with members and health staff from the New York State Congressional Delegation. The reception will begin immediately following the briefing in the same room.
• HANYS’ Member Dinner: Please join HANYS and New York’s allied associations at 6:30 p.m. for dinner at Charlie Palmer Steak, 101 Constitution Avenue, NW.
