Thinking for Complex Environments
Kevin E. O’Connor, Coaching Professional and Professor
In this Category I American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) session, Kevin O’Connor will go beyond traditional methods for problem solving and create new approaches that will inspire your team to generate new ideas and facilitate sustainable improvement. He will discuss how to realize better bottom-line results with breakthrough strategies that incorporate innovation and creativity and will explain how to think beyond the “here and now” and focus on better and more future-oriented outcomes. In this three-hour session you will also learn:
- how to stop trying to solve new problems with the same old approaches;
- techniques to anticipate and overcome roadblocks, objections, and those who say “We can’t do that.”;
- strategies to improve team performance; and
- how to stop (or start) a “runaway train” at your organization.

Journey to Quality Excellence: Transforming Health Care
and Saving Lives through Baldridge
Rulon Stacey, Ph.D., F.A.C.H.E.
President and Chief Executive Officer, Poudre Valley Health System
Dr. Stacey will present the 2012 ACHE awards before sharing with members how Poudre Valley Health System (PVHS) in Fort Collins, Colorado improved performance by following the excellence model outlined in the Baldrige Award. By creating an effective leadership system and continuously measuring results, PVHS improved outcomes and as a result, lives have been saved.
PVHS was the only health care organization to receive the 2008 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award, the nation’s highest presidential honor for organizational innovation and performance excellence.

Registration Information
All registrations for this Conference must be done online. To save time and ensure a smooth process during registration, please have the following information ready before you begin:
- Registrant's e-mail address
- Registrant's HANYS password
- Guest name (if registrant is bringing a guest)
- Registrant's NAB number, and ACHE number, to obtain continuing education credits
- If the registrant will be attending the Awards Luncheon on Thursday, and/or the ACHE Keynote Luncheon on Friday (R.S.V.P. required)
- If the registrant will attend the ACHE Session on Friday (to receive ACHE continuing education credits)
- Credit card information to process payment

Golf
HANYS is not organizing a golf outing this year. However, a discounted golf rate of $100 has been obtained for registrants for June 27, the day before the conference starts. Tee-off time must be before 2 p.m.
You must contact the Pro Shop directly at (518) 743-6380 to reserve your spot, be sure to mention HANYS for the discount.
Registration Deadline and Cancellation
The registration deadline for the Conference is June 10.
Registrations cancelled after June 10 are subject to a $50 administrative charge. Registration fees for those canceling on the day of the program or failing to attend are forfeited. Substitutions are permitted and encouraged, but should be indicated either before or at the Conference.

Please note the Sagamore's reservation/cancellation policy: A credit card is required to confirm your reservation. A non-refundable $35 processing fee will be charged at time of booking. The balance of your stay will be charged to this card 14 days prior to your arrival date. Should you cancel this reservation more than 14 days prior to arrival the $35 processing fee will be forfeited. If the cancellation is made 14 days or less from arrival, the total amount will be forfeited. In the event you do not arrive on the above arrival date your reservation will be cancelled and the amount collected will be forfeited at that time.
