The New York State Department of Health Office of Health Emergency Preparedness is partnering with HANYS, Leading Age New York, and New York State Health Facilities Association to deliver a Town Hall style meeting to nursing home providers in the downstate counties impacted the most by Hurricane Sandy.
Under regulatory Section 415.26 (f) of the Public Health Code, nursing homes are required to conduct emergency preparation activities. The purpose of the Town Hall meeting is to share up-to-date information and strategies with nursing home provides with which to build and enhance the nursing home capability to evacuate or shelter in place if affected by a serious coastal storm. Specific discussion topics will address planning to increase resilience, strategies to mitigate risks, pre-incident decision making, and incident specific management procedures. These items will assist nursing home administrators to increase their knowledge, skills and abilities to address this capability and maintain a safe environment for their residents during this type of incident. Information provided in various sections will also serve as the basis for facility breakout sessions.
