The New Safe Patient Handling Law

This Webinar is for HANYS, Western New York Hospital Association, and Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council Members Only.

This educational webconference will focus on the specifics of the new safe patient handling law, including requirements and the implementation timeline. The information to be presented will assist members as you prepare for and implement a safe patient handling program, consistent with these new requirements.

The 2014-2015 state budget includes a safe patient handling program that:

• establishes a statewide workgroup;
• requires hospitals, nursing homes, and other healthcare providers to establish facility-specific committees;
• requires these facilities to implement safe patient handling programs; and
• requires the Department of Financial Services to make rules for facilities to obtain a reduced Workers’ Compensation rate.

HANYS is working to develop tools and resources to help hospitals formulate, update, or expand their safe patient handling policies.
