Medicaid Inspector General Issues First Annual Work Plan

Bookmark and Share

The State Office of the Medicaid Inspector General (OMIG) has published its first annual work plan, which outlines an ambitious agenda for seeking fraud and waste in the Medicaid system during state fiscal year 2008-2009. Virtually every type of health care provider is included in the work plan, with emphasis on Medicaid managed care organizations, hospitals, and nursing homes. HANYS encourages all members to review the work plan and use it as a tool to help focus compliance efforts. A few of the issues identified by OMIG are also being scrutinized by the federal Office of the Inspector General, but the majority of OMIG’s target subjects do not overlap with the federal agenda. – Mark Thomas
