New Trends Are Driving Changes in Health Care

Bookmark and Share

In his presentation, Emerging Trends in American Health Care: New Leadership for New Challenges, John F. Sena, Ph.D., discussed current and emerging trends that are shaping the future of health care. A key trend is patients increasingly taking on the role as educated consumers, demanding information about quality and wanting control over their care and their medical record. Another is the rise of alternative medicine. Dr. Sena also discussed larger trends such as the unsustainable growth in health care spending as a percentage of the nation’s gross domestic product and the coming insolvency of Medicare, noting that the crisis is growing because of politicians’ refusal to address it. In this interactive session, members offered their own experiences and shared strategies for shaping how some of these trends affect the delivery of care. – Chris Pellnat
