HANYS Joins the Associated Medical Schools of New York for Federal Advocacy

Bookmark and Share

Today, HANYS joined several deans and other representatives from the 15 public and private medical schools in New York State that make up the Associated Medical Schools of New York (AMSNY) for AMSNY’s annual federal advocacy day. Among the messages carried to key members of the New York State Congressional Delegation is the need to increase federal investment in medical research funded by the National Institutes of Health (NIH). In a meeting with the group, Representatives Nita Lowey (D-Harrison) and James Walsh (R-Syracuse) reiterated their commitment as members of the House Appropriations Committee to working to increase NIH funding for federal fiscal year 2009. The U.S. House of Representatives has yet to pass the Labor, Health, and Human Services federal appropriations bill. Final passage is likely to be delayed until after the November election. – Kevin Krawiecki
