Advisory Board
The Project's Advisory Board consists of representatives from each of the project sites, the American Cancer Society, the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, and the New York State Department of Health. The Chairman of the Project Advisory Board is Harold Freeman, M.D., Director of Surgery of North General Hospital in Harlem, Associate Director for Reducing Health Disparities at the National Cancer Institute, Chair of the President's Panel on Cancer, and past President of the American Cancer Society. Board members include: cancer center administrators, hospital executives, nurses, physicians, radiology staff, outreach workers, patient navigators, program planners, community advocates, and breast cancer survivors.
The role of the Advisory Board is to share information among sites, discuss issues and trends in the treatment of breast cancer, and assist project staff with the research and development of the project model. Meeting agendas consist of presentations by consultants, review of best practices at the sites, updates on research activities, and meetings of specialized work groups. Work group areas of specialization are outreach and education, clinical and medical issues, and systems and financial management. The Advisory Board meets three times annually for full day meetings.
