This National Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program (NBCCEDP) guide describes activities that have been effective in bringing targeted women in for mammography screening and rescreening. It provides background and explains needed infrastructure to aid in identifying the best strategies to increase mammography screening rates in selected populations and developing collaborations to implement these strategies.

This manual presents the ideas and experiences of six breast cancer community demonstration programs, known collectively as the NCI Breast Cancer Screening Consortium. It provides descriptions of intervention programs designed to increase local breast cancer screening rates. - Breast Cancer National Quality Improvement Project
This page provides information about the Breast Cancer National Quality Improvement Project, which is conducted nationally through HCFA's Medicare peer review organizations (PROs) to improve mammography screening rates among Medicare beneficiaries. Through this project, all PROs are working in their respective states and territories with health care providers to put systems in place to ensure routine mammography screening and with Medicare beneficiaries to educate them on the need for annual mammograms.

The Susan G. Komen Foundation Web site also offers an online audiovisual resource for BSE in English and Spanish, which teaches individuals how to look and feel for any breast changes.

Scientists at the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and the National Surgical Adjuvant Breast and Bowel Project (NSABP) developed the Breast Cancer Risk Assessment Tool, a computer program that can be used to estimate a woman's chances of developing breast cancer, based on several recognized risk factors. Available from NCI publications list in CD ROM format in English and Spanish. - Genetic Testing for Breast Cancer Risk
This patient education booklet provides an overview on genetic testing for breast and ovarian cancer risk. It describes testing and explains terms like family history, genes and genetic testing. Developed by the National Action Plan on Breast Cancer in collaboration with the National Cancer Institute.
