HANYS is the statewide voice of New York’s hospitals and health systems, advocating to ensure that every New Yorker has access to affordable, high-quality care. HANYS is proud to represent hospitals, health systems, nursing homes, home care agencies, clinics and other healthcare providers across the state. Our members include large academic medical centers and health systems, small community hospitals and everything in between.
New York’s hospitals and health systems provide care for 19 million New Yorkers, including the young, old, working poor, 3.6 million Medicare and 6.4 million Medicaid enrollees, and those who have commercial insurance. Our hospitals never turn anyone away from needed care, regardless of ability to pay.
New York’s hospitals bring new life into the world—about 226,000 babies each year—and help train the next generation of doctors.
Our hospitals annually provide about 56 million outpatient visits, treat 8.7 million people in emergency rooms, and admit 2.4 million people.
New York’s hospitals also contribute to the economy, generating 838,000 jobs and $170 billion in economic activity.
In addition, our hospitals are prepared 24/7 for any natural or man-made emergency or disaster. In recent years, we have been there, ready to respond to hurricanes, floods, H1N1, West Nile virus, Zika and now COVID-19.
New York’s healthcare providers face many challenges as they work to re-shape the delivery of care to achieve the “Triple Aim” of better care, better health and lower costs.
HANYS exists to help New York’s healthcare providers fulfill their mission. We provide our members advocacy, education, data analytics, quality improvement initiatives, operational assistance and more. Learn more about what HANYS does.
