Statement by HANYS President Bea Grause on President Trump’s Proposed 2018 Federal Budget
ALBANY, N.Y. — “The President’s budget is the wrong approach because it particularly hurts the most vulnerable New Yorkers. If enacted, these cuts would absolutely devastate healthcare and social services for millions of New Yorkers who depend on these programs. We strongly oppose the President’s budget proposals that mirror the House of Representatives-passed American Health Care Act, which would change Medicaid from an entitlement to a block grant program and slash Medicaid funding by more than $800 billion. HANYS is also deeply concerned about the President’s proposal for deep funding cuts to the National Institutes of Health, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and other programs, including those designed to address the opioid abuse epidemic.”
