Statement by HANYS President Bea Grause on the U.S. Senate’s ACA Repeal Bill

ALBANY, N.Y. — “HANYS strongly opposes the U.S. Senate’s Affordable Care Act (ACA) repeal bill, the Better Care Reconciliation Act, which would reduce health insurance coverage, threaten access to care, and weaken consumer protections.  The Better Care Reconciliation Act fails to meet our basic standard: any ACA replacement plan should include healthcare coverage that is at least as expansive as under the ACA.  The Senate bill would cut and cap federal Medicaid funding, end the program’s expansion, and reduce insurance subsidies for vulnerable populations—all of which means fewer Americans having access to health insurance. The deep Medicaid cuts and restructuring in this bill would undermine the healthcare system and jeopardize access to needed care. This bill is an assault on healthcare, particularly in New York. HANYS will continue to oppose legislation that reduces insurance coverage, and advocate for healthcare policies that support healthcare and provide access to meaningful health coverage for all.”
