Hospitals Across NYS Donate Millions to Puerto Rico Hospitals, Health Care Workers, and Their Families
Donations to “New York Healthcare’s Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund” Already at $5 Million in One Day, Halfway to Minimum Goal
September 29, 2017…A fund established by Greater New York Hospital Association (GNYHA) and the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) to assist hospitals, their health care workers, and their families in Puerto Rico and other Caribbean islands that were impacted by recent hurricanes raised $5 million in its first day. The New York Healthcare’s Puerto Rico Hurricane Relief Fund is a vehicle for New York’s hospital community to show its support for frontline caregivers and their families who have suffered significant losses.
The goal of the Fund is to raise at least $10 million.
In a joint statement, GNYHA President Kenneth E. Raske and HANYS President Bea Grause said, “Just like in New York State, hospitals in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean are community anchors, and their health care workers are their indispensable core. We want each and every health care worker, as well as their families and loved ones, to know that New York’s entire hospital community stands with them in their time of need, and we will do everything we can to help them recover.”
GNYHA and HANYS are deeply grateful to their member hospitals and health systems for helping to ensure that desperately needed financial support is provided to health care workers and their families in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean in the wake of these devastating hurricanes.
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is the statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York State, representing hundreds of non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
