For Immediate Release:
Statement by Bea Grause, President of HANYS, Regarding the Executive Budget Proposal
ALBANY, N.Y. — Governor Cuomo clearly recognizes the peril to the state’s healthcare system resulting from federal efforts to undermine coverage and reduce support for hospitals.
In recent months, the Governor has spoken forcefully against these ill-conceived federal polices, and in his budget proposal today, he took important steps to protect healthcare providers from damaging cuts.
HANYS and its members appreciate the Governor’s commitment to maintain access to healthcare for all who need it in New York.
We know, however, that New York still faces major federal funding threats. In this regard, the Governor’s budget assumes congressional approval of the Children’s Health Insurance Program and Disproportionate Share Hospital Program. Without congressional approval of these and other critical programs, New Yorkers could lose access to needed services.
HANYS will work closely with the Governor and legislative leaders on next year’s budget, keeping in mind our legislative priorities which aim to reduce health spending growth while promoting access to high quality care for all patients.
The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is the only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York State, representing 500 non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
