For Immediate Release:

Cristina Batt to Lead HANYS’ Washington Office

ALBANY, N.Y. — Bea Grause, President of the Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS), has announced the appointment of Cristina Freyre Batt as HANYS’ new Vice President, Federal Relations. In her new position, she will oversee all of HANYS’ federal government relations and advocacy work, working with lawmakers and HANYS’ members to advance the Association’s healthcare agenda in Washington.

“Cristina is a welcome addition to our senior management team. She will be instrumental in guiding our advocacy and government relations work to support our healthcare agenda,” said Ms. Grause. “Her public policy experience and proven effectiveness in advocacy will strengthen our efforts as we work with our members to protect patient care and navigate an ever-changing, complex healthcare landscape.”

Ms. Batt comes to HANYS with an extensive background in government relations and healthcare. Most recently, she was Vice President, Federal Relations, at the Illinois Health and Hospital Association, where she directed all federal advocacy activities, including developing and implementing the association’s federal legislative and regulatory strategy. Before that, she worked as a Policy Analyst at the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), where her work included congressional outreach strategy and educating members of Congress about CDC’s work.

“Under Bea’s leadership, HANYS has been a very influential voice in major healthcare policy discussions in Washington, particularly the debate over the Affordable Care Act. I welcome the opportunity to be part of this dynamic, effective organization,” said Ms. Batt.

Her career includes work as Senior Policy Advisor for Representative Eliot Engel (D-Bronx), where she managed the health legislative agenda of a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health. Ms. Batt also worked as a Government Relations Associate at the State University of New York at Buffalo.

She received her undergraduate degree in public policy from Hamilton College and is fluent in Spanish.

Ms. Batt will begin June 18 at HANYS’ Washington, D.C., office. She will work with Elyse Oveson, Senior Director, Federal Relations, who ably led the Washington office on an interim basis.

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) is the statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York State, representing hundreds of non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
