Interoperability and Patient Access Forum

Description:

HANYS is convening a meeting to discuss the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology/Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Interoperability and Information sharing regulations and the implementation practicalities. This will be an open discussion beginning with a brief review of the regulations. Members have shown interest in working together on the practical concerns and strategic opportunities involved. Dr. Scott Cohen, chief medical information officer, Bassett Healthcare Network, will guide our practical discussion.

A preliminary agenda is below. We welcome your input, as this is meant to be a collaborative workgroup.

Forum participants will:

• review 21st Century Cures Act: Interoperability and Information Sharing requirements;
• review the federal regulations;
• explore the intersection and potential conflicts with New York state privacy regulations;
• discuss ROI, portal integration and other implementation concerns, looking at EMR-specific issues; and
• discuss strategic opportunities with FHIR API.
