Two-Midnight Rule Patient Status Reviews

HANYS and Greater New York Hospital Association will host a one-hour webinar with Livanta, New York’s Medicare Quality Improvement Organization (QIO), to provide a refresher course on the role and function of Medicare’s Beneficiary and Family Centered Care (BFCC)-QIO program, as well as updates and additional resources on the medical review process for short inpatient hospital stays (“patient status reviews”) under the two-midnight rule.
Under the short stay review process, Livanta examines the appropriateness of an inpatient admission and will incorporate a medical necessity review based on the pertinent Medicare coverage policies. These reviews cover Medicare inpatient stays of less than two midnights.
