Arnot Health delivers immunity to the community
In the COVID-19 era, healthcare providers must find creative solutions to delivering accessible vaccines and evolving to meet the demands of the pandemic. Partnerships between providers and trusted community organizations have proven essential to immunization efforts. Arnot Health has provided more than 30,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccine in its community. That number represents approximately 14,000 fully vaccinated people, with the remaining individuals due for their second dose to reach fully vaccinated status in the coming weeks.
Arnot’s dedicated staff and volunteers have worked with community partners, including the Arnot Mall, Erway Ambulance, the Economic Opportunity Program and several local churches and agencies that have volunteered space, personnel and talents to this collaborative community effort. These partnerships have enabled the hospital to reach traditionally underserved and special needs populations, removing barriers to receiving the vaccine for those groups.
Arnot continues to offer residents vaccination clinics in various locations and at times designed to fit any schedule. To date, 28,424 Chemung County residents have received at least one dose of vaccine and 21,145 of those individuals have completed their vaccine series. In Steuben County, 29,501 residents have received at least one dose of vaccine and 19,514 of those individuals have completed their vaccine series, with the Southern Tier having one of the highest vaccination percentages in the state. Approximately 25,000 vaccines were given at Chemung County sites since efforts began with frontline hospital staff from around the region Dec. 15, 2020. Arnot has given another 5,000 doses in Steuben County via efforts coordinated by Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in Bath.
