Innovation Spotlight: New York Hospitals Are Improving Health, Enhancing Quality, and Reducing Costs.

NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital Launches Telehealth Services

Mobile access to healthcare has become a key focus for many patients. In response to this shifting demand for online care, NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital (NYP), in collaboration with Weill Cornell Medicine and ColumbiaDoctors, created a four-pronged, web-based interface called NYP OnDemand.

The four program categories of care are: Second Opinion; Digital Inter-Hospital Consults; Digital Emergency Care and Urgent Care; and Digital Follow-up Visits. Creating new means of engagement for patients not only benefits the care and treatment of the individual, but also the development of more comprehensive care models within the continuum of care. OnDemand is accessible on a mobile phone, tablet or desktop via the NewYork-Presbyterian app.

Since its launch in the summer of 2016, NYP OnDemand has facilitated over 1,000 telehealth visits across all the services. The Second Opinion service has given patients across the country access to 350 NYP physician experts in over 80 specialties. The Digital Express Care service in the Emergency Department has helped reduce wait times for many low-acuity patients, and the Inter-Hospital Digital Consult service has allowed faster treatment for hundreds of patients across the NYC metro area via NYP’s regional hospitals.
