John Barnes

John Barnes specializes in managed healthcare arrangements. As a partner in King & Spalding’s Healthcare practice, Mr. Barnes advises clients on the structuring of risk-based managed care contracts (including capitation and shared savings arrangements), as well as traditional fee-for-service arrangements. He also advises clients on contract terminations, network access disputes, and revenue cycle practices. Experienced in managed care contract negotiations, Mr. Barnes frequently counsels healthcare clients on federal and state compliance, charity and indigent care, non-contract provider payment, contract termination and transition, business office practices, and other issues.

A former member of the American Health Lawyers Association’s Board of Directors, Mr. Boswell chaired their Healthcare Liability and Litigation Practice Group from 2009 to 2012. He has been recognized in several publications, including recognition as one of 12 “Outstanding Healthcare Litigators” nationwide by Nightingale’s Healthcare News.

Steve Goff is a partner in King & Spalding’s healthcare practice, representing healthcare providers in a variety of high-profile matters. Mr. Goff defends healthcare providers in high-stakes litigation and arbitration. In addition, he often works with providers to develop contracting and operational strategies, align these strategies with revenue-cycle improvements, and mitigate risks. Mr. Goff has extensive experience in negotiating and enforcing agreements with commercial, Medicare Advantage, and Medicaid managed care payers. He also has focused expertise in self-funded plan benefits and structuring managed care contracts to improve expected revenue realization from ASO payers. In 2009, Best Lawyers in America honored Mr. Goff as the Sacramento Lawyer of the Year.

Dan Hettich assists hospitals and health systems across the country with complex, multimillion-dollar Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement issues. A partner in King & Spalding’s Healthcare practice, Mr. Hettich advocates his clients' interests before the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Congress, and federal courts, and assists his clients in dealing with fraud and abuse concerns. He has been the Vice Chair of the American Health Lawyers Association's (AHLA) Regulation, Accreditation and Payment practice group since 2013. Mr. Hettich is also a frequent speaker at AHLA's annual Institute on Medicare and Medicaid Payment. He was nominated to become a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation in 2017, was recognized as one of the top litigators under 40 by Benchmark Litigation in 2016, and was named a Rising Star by Law360 in both 2015 and 2016.

Ms. Murphy regularly serves as lead counsel on behalf of hospital systems and healthcare providers in managed care disputes with health plans, and counsels clients on complex medical billing, coding, and reimbursement matters.
