Statement from HANYS President Bea Grause, RN, JD, on the House Energy and Commerce Committee Medicaid proposals
No patient, provider or community will be healthier if the U.S. House Energy and Commerce Committee’s Medicaid proposals go into effect. This package will cause a substantial number of New Yorkers who rely on Medicaid to lose their coverage, and it will slash all New Yorkers’ access to care by cutting essential funding for hospitals and other providers. HANYS urges New York’s congressional delegation to reject this bill.
Washington must focus on preserving and enhancing access to affordable, quality care for all who need it and reducing demand for that care by improving health. Building our workforce and promoting innovation must be prioritized - not stripping coverage from vulnerable patients and funding from providers already on the brink. These proposals will take our nation's health and healthcare system the wrong direction and must not advance.
