Innovation Spotlight - Triple Aim: New York Hospitals Are Improving Health, Enhancing Quality, and Reducing Costs.

Jones Memorial Hospital Improves Population Health

Jones Memorial Hospital has been focused on population health as part of its mission. In support of that mission, they partnered with their local Chamber of Commerce to promote a community that encourages residents to walk, run, bike, fish, and enjoy the area’s natural resources.

The WAG Trail is a nine-mile, multi-use recreation trail and historic transportation corridor in Allegany County extending between the Village of Wellsville and the Pennsylvania state line. It follows the route of the former Wellsville, Addison and Galeton (WAG) Railroad along the upper Genesee River. Extending the trail to the Pennsylvania border was in the original plan, but five miles of that section had several bridges and culverts needing repair and river erosion that needed to be addressed.

Jones Memorial Hospital donated $10,000 in lumber with proceeds from its Community Wellness events, the 2014 RidgeWalk & Run and the 2015 GLOW 5K Run & Walk. This donation helped re-deck two bridges and opened the trail from Wellsville to the Pennsylvania border, giving the community more opportunities to get outside, keep moving, and promote exercise and healthy activities.
