Sepsis

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • describe the scope of the sepsis problem and the New York State Sepsis Care Improvement Initiative;
  • describe persons at increased risk of developing sepsis;
  • identify common sources of infection that may lead to sepsis;
  • describe the early signs and symptoms associated with sepsis in adults, children and infants;
  • summarize the need for immediate medical evaluation and management of suspected sepsis; and
  • outline approaches to educate patients and families on methods for preventing infections and illnesses that can lead to sepsis, identifying the signs and symptoms of severe infections and knowing when to seek medical care.
