Applying Design Thinking to Healthcare’s Most Pressing Challenges

3 ACHE Face-to-Face credit hours

Leslie Wainwright, PhD, Chief Funding and Innovation Officer, Parkland Center for Clinical Innovation

COVID-19 has impacted all aspects of life — including healthcare innovation. While pressures from the pandemic itself may dissipate, the experience of the last 18 months has highlighted the need for rapid-cycle innovation tools to aid with development, testing and roll out of new care delivery models. Such challenges are well suited to utilize design thinking methods — both to better understand problems and develop potential solutions.

This session will be grounded in relevant case studies and demonstrate how to use a design thinking toolkit to tackle some of the most pressing challenges. Attendees will have an opportunity to apply key learnings through breakout work and learn from peers participating in the program.

Learning objectives

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • develop new skills for analyzing current business model challenges and crafting plausible future alternatives;
  • review trends and leading practices related to solving today's top industry challenges; and
  • gain experience using a design-thinking-based, problem-solving toolkit that can be applied to many challenges beyond this course.
