HANYS Announces Additions to Leadership Team

ALBANY, N.Y. – Healthcare Association of the New York State (HANYS) President Beatrice Grause today announced key additions to her leadership team.

Ms. Grause said three veteran government affairs professionals have been named to senior vice president roles: James M. Clancy will serve as Senior Vice President for Government Relations; Susan Van Meter will serve as Senior Vice President for Federal Relations; and Darren Dopp will serve as Senior Vice President for Communications.

“We’ve assembled an outstanding team to lead HANYS during a challenging time of transformation in the healthcare sector. Our focus will be on serving our members and also helping New York become a national leader in providing high-quality healthcare,” Ms. Grause said.

An announcement is pending regarding a replacement for Chief Operating Officer Richard Cook, who is retiring.

Mr. Clancy is a former Assistant Commissioner for Governmental and External Affairs and Director of Health Policy Planning at the New York State Department of Health. Most recently he was a consultant and lobbyist for leading healthcare institutions. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the State University of New York at Albany, where he currently serves on the University Council.

Ms. Van Meter has served as the director of HANYS Washington office for the past 15 years and has been promoted to Senior Vice President. She has an Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Boston University.

Mr. Dopp served as a top communications aide for two governors, an attorney general, and legislative leader. Most recently, he has worked as a communications consultant for healthcare institutions, patient advocacy groups, and public sector unions. He has an Master of Arts degree in Public Affairs from the American University.

The Healthcare Association of New York State (HANYS) represents 550 non-profit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies, and other healthcare organizations.
