Statement by HANYS President Bea Grause, RN, JD, on CMS’ denial to extend and renew DSRIP
HANYS is extremely disappointed the Trump administration has denied New York’s request to extend and renew the Delivery System Reform Incentive Payment program.
The patient-centered interventions established through DSRIP and delivered by locally-managed Performing Provider Systems have reduced emergency department visits, avoidable hospitalizations, and state and federal Medicaid spending.
The DSRIP extension, using already allocated federal funding, would have supported PPS’ efforts to keep patient care progress moving forward. The renewal would have driven further improvements to our most vulnerable patients’ access to care. Sadly, the Trump administration’s decision does just the opposite.
Today’s news is just the latest in a series of hits to New York’s healthcare system. Our federal government needs to invest in innovative care delivery to help New York go forward, not backward.
The Healthcare Association of New York State is the only statewide hospital and continuing care association in New York, representing nonprofit and public hospitals, nursing homes, home care agencies and other healthcare organizations.
