HANYS announces infection prevention-focused partnership with PURPLESUN™

New partnership formed to reduce healthcare-associated infections using novel light-based technology

ALBANY, NY — June 23, 2020 — The Healthcare Association of New York State, Inc. today announces a new strategic business partnership with PURPLESUN Inc., a New York-based technology company. This partnership aims to arm more New York healthcare facilities with a powerful tool to reduce healthcare-associated infections caused by harmful viruses, bacteria and other germs.

“Infection control continues to be a key priority for New York’s healthcare providers, especially in the midst of this pandemic,” said Bea Grause, RN, JD, president, HANYS. “PURPLESUN’s technology allows providers to achieve in minutes what would otherwise take hours. It’s a great option to help them more effectively and efficiently protect their patients and essential healthcare workers.”

PURPLESUN’s novel light-based technology platform, Focused Multivector Ultraviolet Shadowless Delivery™, is unlike any other ultraviolet solution and provides healthcare facilities with a smart, data-driven and sustainable solution to automate the process for disinfection of patient rooms and complex medical equipment. The PURPLESUN E300 product offers best-in-class efficacy, speed and workflow, treating contaminated areas and equipment for the purposes of disinfection in just 90 seconds with 99.99% efficacy.

“With a combination of our deep industry knowledge and being on the front lines of the COVID-19 crisis, PURPLESUN is equipped to offer greater insight for infection prevention strategies that will benefit our customers in the long term,” said Luis F. Romo, chief executive officer and founder, PURPLESUN. “Partnering with HANYS will amplify our ability to provide education on best practices to incorporate evidence-based FMUV solutions. I believe we are on our way to becoming the new standard of care. We look forward to working with more hospitals in New York to enhance processes and help patients and staff feel more confident about their safety.”

This partnership is HANYS’ latest effort focused on helping New York healthcare facilities reduce HAIs; much progress has been made in recent years. According to the New York State Department of Health’s Hospital-Acquired Infections in New York State, 2018 report, hospitals statewide saw significant declines for nine out of the ten measured infections from 2015 to 2018.

“HANYS is steadfast in its dedication to helping healthcare providers achieve continuous quality improvement and performance excellence,” said Loretta Willis, RN, BSN, CPHQ, CCM, vice president, HANYS’ Quality Advocacy, Research and Innovation division. “Our partnership with PURPLESUN provides yet another way we can help hospitals, post-acute providers and other healthcare facilities further improve patient safety.”

HANYS encourages healthcare providers interested in learning more about PURPLESUN’s solutions to contact the association.
