HANYS awarded Mother Cabrini Health Foundation grant to address bias and disparities in healthcare

Pathway to Person-centered Health Encounters: Reducing Bias and Disparities in Healthcare webinar series to launch April 14

ALBANY, NY – Through generous support from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation, the Healthcare Association of New York State is partnering with Planetree International, a globally recognized expert in the delivery of person-centered care, to offer a free seven-session webinar series beginning April 14. The Pathway to Person-centered Health Encounters: Reducing Bias and Disparities in Healthcare series will provide participants with a deeper understanding of the many forms of bias and offer actionable, person-centered strategies to reduce bias and lead to more equitable care. Full series details are available on HANYS’ website.

“HANYS, our board of trustees and our members are focused on addressing healthcare disparities. The disproportionate impact on vulnerable communities during the COVID-19 pandemic has made this work even more urgent. The Foundation’s support at this critical time allows us to continue our longstanding partnership with Planetree to provide high-value programming to support the delivery of person-centered care in New York,” said Bea Grause, RN, JD, president, HANYS.

“Planetree is pleased to continue our relationship with HANYS at this very challenging moment in healthcare,” said Susan Frampton, PhD, president, Planetree. “We look forward to working with New York hospitals and healthcare systems as they recover from the pandemic and strengthen their efforts to reduce bias and provide equitable healthcare encounters.”

“The pandemic has deepened longstanding disparities in healthcare access and outcomes. By providing education and leadership development support for diversity and inclusion, this grant can improve care for all patients, but especially for New Yorkers who are underserved,” said Msgr. Greg Mustaciuolo, chief executive officer, Mother Cabrini Health Foundation.

Funding from the Mother Cabrini Health Foundation will also support healthcare leadership development scholarships for underrepresented populations and the ongoing work of the HANYS Diversity and Inclusion Officers Advisory Committee.

HANYS’ clinical and policy professionals manage a number of voluntary collaboratives and support networks focused on improving quality, safety and outcomes for healthcare organizations across the continuum of care.
