Nearly 200 representatives urge Biden administration to investigate nurse staffing agency practices

Signatories of the HANYS-supported letter urge the administration to investigate reports that nurse staffing agencies are taking advantage of the COVID-19 pandemic to increase profits at the expense of hospitals and their patients. HANYS has been drawing attention at all levels of government to the staffing shortages facing New York’s hospitals and health systems and the unsustainable costs of traveling nurses that are exacerbating this dire situation.


Spotlight on Highland Hospital

Through a variety of initiatives that improved face-to-face, effective communication among team members, they reduced mean patient length of stay by 1.1 days and median length of stay by nine hours. Learn more in our Member Spotlight.


DOH releases brochure on COVID-19 vaccination during pregnancy

The patient education brochure, titled “Protect Yourself, Your Family, and Your Baby: Get the COVID-19 Vaccine,” is available online in 11 languages to assist providers when counseling patients.


New WCB resources focus on long-haul COVID-19

The New York State Workers’ Compensation Board is offering a new series of webinars to provide information on long-haul COVID-19 workers’ compensation claims. Information on the webinars along with new fact sheets and other COVID-19 resources for workers, employers and insurance carriers are available on WCB’s webpage.


FDA updates device shortage list

Updated Jan. 19, the device shortage list now includes all blood specimen collection tubes (product codes GIM and JKA), in addition to the sodium citrate (light blue top) tubes previously included; access the FDA’s Blood Specimen Collection Tube Shortage FAQ for more information.
