State legislative activity

This month the following bills passed both houses of the Legislature and are now awaiting delivery to Gov. Hochul:

  • Medical debt liens and wage garnishment (A.7363-A/S.6522-A)
  • School-based health centers (A.9288/S.8447)
  • Maternity-related statistics (A.9098-A/S.8751)

In addition, the following bill was signed into law:

  • PHHPC women's health representative (Chapter 179)

NYSOH releases 2023 invitation for participation

Insurers seeking to offer coverage on the New York State of Health Marketplace under the Essential Plan, Qualified Health Plans or stand-alone dental plans must submit their participation proposals by May 25. HANYS members can find 2023 requirements for benefit coverage, networks and more on the NYSOH website.


FDA updates EUA for COVID-19 drug

The new indication and updated Emergency Use Authorization for Olumiant (baricitinib) is for the treatment of COVID-19 in hospitalized adults requiring supplemental oxygen, non-invasive or invasive mechanical ventilation, or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation. Olumiant is the first immunomodulatory treatment for COVID-19 to receive FDA approval.
