Biden administration acts to lower drug costs, extends PHE

President Biden signed an Executive Order this morning directing HHS to explore actions to lower prescription drug costs, building on reforms enacted earlier this year as part of the Inflation Reduction Act. Yesterday, HHS Secretary Xavier Becerra renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency for another 90 days, extending key waivers and flexibilities including those related to telehealth and expanded coverage, 20% add-on payments to hospitals for treatment of COVID-19 patients and increased federal matching rate to states.

Hurricane relief fund helps hospital employees in Florida

The Florida Hospital Association has established the Health Care Heroes Relief Fund to provide immediate financial support to hospital employees displaced by Hurricane Ian. The funds will help impacted employees with housing and living expenses, healthcare needs and transportation. Learn more and donate online.


New York State of Health announces open enrollment

Insurance plans available through the New York State of Health marketplace for 2023 have been announced, with open enrollment running Nov. 16 – Jan. 31. One in three New Yorkers is enrolled in coverage through the marketplace, which offers expanded federal tax credits for those enrolled in qualified health plans for 2023.
