Spotlight on Catholic Health (Buffalo)

Through partnership with FeedMore WNY and D’Youville University, Catholic Health launched the Food Farmacy, a collaborative effort that lets primary care providers link patients at risk for food insecurity to nutritional food; ongoing education regarding diet, exercise and symptom management; and needed support to change behaviors and improve health outcomes. New York GME slots get boost from CMS, more expected in the coming years

18 New York hospitals received approximately 38 new GME residency positions effective July 1 — 20% of the 200 slots added by CMS nationwide. Applications for next year’s 200 slots are due March 31. The recently passed federal omnibus spending bill will add another 200 residency positions in 2026, with 100 slots dedicated specifically to psychiatry and psychiatry subspecialties. HANYS thanks Senate Majority Leader Schumer and the entire New York state congressional delegation for their longstanding support of New York’s hospitals and their leadership role in GME training.


PHE renewed, policy extensions achieved

The Biden administration renewed the COVID-19 public health emergency this week for an additional 90 days. HANYS continues to work on extending key provisions beyond the PHE’s expiration, building on recent legislative action to extend Hospital at Home and telehealth flexibilities for two years.
