The federal government shutdown is now in its third day. Along with funding federal agencies, Congress also did not address several key healthcare extenders that expired on Sept. 30, including:

• cuts to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital payments;
• Medicare telehealth flexibilities;
• the Acute Hospital Care at Home program; and
• the Medicare enhanced low-volume hospital adjustment.

DOH’s Office of Healthcare Workforce Innovation announced $19.5 million in Healthcare Education and Life-skills Program awards that will be distributed to 21 organizations across New York state. Applications for Increasing Training Capacity in Statewide Healthcare Facilities are due Oct. 14; approximately $32.5 million in state funding will be available to support programs across ten New York state regions per year, for a total of $162.5 million.
