Government shutdown continues
The federal government shutdown is now in its third day. Along with funding federal agencies, Congress also did not address several key healthcare extenders that expired on Sept. 30, including:
- cuts to Medicaid Disproportionate Share Hospital payments;
- Medicare telehealth flexibilities;
- the Acute Hospital Care at Home program; and
- the Medicare enhanced low-volume hospital adjustment.

DOH awards funding for healthcare education programs; applications for workforce training funding due Oct. 14
DOH’s Office of Healthcare Workforce Innovation announced $19.5 million in Healthcare Education and Life-skills Program awards that will be distributed to 21 organizations across New York state. Applications for Increasing Training Capacity in Statewide Healthcare Facilities are due Oct. 14; approximately $32.5 million in state funding will be available to support programs across ten New York state regions per year, for a total of $162.5 million.
