State legislative activity update
Since the end of the 2019 legislative session, 313 bills have been approved by Gov. Cuomo and chaptered, including the following bills of interest to HANYS and our members:
Pelvic examinations – requires informed consent to perform a pelvic examination on an anesthetized or unconscious person and would expand the definition of professional misconduct to include unauthorized pelvic examinations. This legislation will take effect in April 2020. (Chapter 360).
Geriatric Service Demonstration Program – expands the Geriatric Service Demonstration Program to include providers of substance use disorder and compulsive gambling services (Chapter 328).
There are currently 546 bills that passed both houses but are still awaiting delivery to the governor for consideration and action before the end of the year. We will continue to provide you with updates as the governor takes action on bills of interest.
