Gov. Cuomo signs HANYS managed care bill into law
This week, Gov. Andrew Cuomo signed into law a bill proposed by HANYS that ends authorization denials for urgent and medically necessary procedures and treatments. If a patient presents with unexpected complications or requires additional services in the course of a treatment, a health insurer will no longer be able to deny payment for the service due to lack of prior authorization. The bill also allows for variations from preapproved procedures and Current Procedural Terminology codes determined as medically necessary by the provider.
This new law streamlines service delivery and payment for concurrent symptoms and side effects by allowing physicians to deliver medically necessary care without waiting for authorization from the health insurer or facing a payment denial.
