President delivers 2020 State of the Union address
President Trump delivered his annual State of the Union address on Tuesday to a joint session of Congress. Among other issues, the address focused on some of the president’s healthcare priorities, including an end to surprise bills for patients, and called on lawmakers to pass bipartisan legislation to reduce drug costs. The president touted his commitment to protecting patients with pre-existing conditions while also pushing back on proposals supported by some Democrats, alluding to efforts to expand coverage to undocumented populations and advance single payer plans.
The president is expected to release his federal fiscal year 2021 budget request to Congress next week. HANYS will update members on key healthcare-related provisions that matter to hospitals and health systems. Contact: Elyse Oveson
