HANYS and members continue urgent response to COVID-19
HANYS is in continuous contact with our members and state and federal policymakers to support New York healthcare providers’ response to this unprecedented pandemic and recognizes the tremendous challenges facing our members.
HANYS, along with our members and partner organizations, is working closely with the governor and DOH on capacity, workforce issues, supplies, testing, transitions of care and other issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Gov. Cuomo has issued multiple Executive Orders this week, inclusive of waivers for which HANYS advocated strongly. These waivers will allow for more flexibility when responding to COVID-19. Today, the Department of Financial Services issued a circular letter informing health plans that certain utilization review and notification requirements are being temporarily suspended. HANYS advocated with DFS for waiving these requirements and we are pleased to see them incorporated into the guidance.
This week, President Trump signed into law a second COVID-19 response package. Among provisions HANYS advocated successfully for is a temporary increase in the FMAP. Negotiations on a third COVID-19 response package are already underway in Washington. HANYS sent a letter to the New York delegation recommending Congress take key actions to support providers during the COVID-19 crisis. HANYS continues to focus our federal COVID-19 advocacy efforts toward directing as much funding and resources to New York’s hospitals and health systems as swiftly as possible.
We continue to post resources for our members on our COVID-19 webpage. For the latest updates and information, we encourage you to follow our COVID-19 Member Updates. Please reach out to HANYS if you have any questions, need assistance or would like to make us aware of issues you are facing to inform our work with policymakers. Contact: Chris Smith
