DOL issues proposed regulations on Paid Sick Leave
This week the Department of Labor issued proposed regulations in the New York State Register for New York’s Paid Sick Leave Law (Labor Law §196-b). Many of our initial concerns pertaining to the implementation of these regulations remain.
Enacted within the 2020-2021 executive budget, this new law requires all employers to provide employees paid sick leave each year as determined by the total number of employees. The Sept. 30 effective date began the process for accrual of sick time, however this time is not available for use by employees until after Jan. 1.
HANYS is conducting a full review and analysis of the proposed regulations with the intent to submit comments to address any outstanding concerns. The 60-day public comment period ends Feb. 7.
