HANYS-supported opioid GME bill introduced in Senate

The bipartisan Opioid Workforce Act of 2021, introduced in the Senate this week, would add 1,000 new Medicare funded residency positions in hospitals for programs in addiction medicine, addiction psychiatry and pain medicine. Companion legislation in the House is expected soon.

HANYS is working to build support for this legislation, along with the Resident Physician Shortage Reduction Act (H.R.2256/S.834), to combat the growing physician shortage. Contact: Elyse Oveson
