New York GME slots get boost from CMS, more expected in the coming years

18 New York hospitals received approximately 38 new GME residency positions effective July 1 — 20% of the 200 slots added by CMS nationwide. Applications for next year’s 200 slots are due March 31. The recently passed federal omnibus spending bill will add another 200 residency positions in 2026, with 100 slots dedicated specifically to psychiatry and psychiatry subspecialties.
