HANYS recognizes Kevin Dahill with 2020 Distinguished Service Award

Suburban Hospital Alliance president honored for leadership, career dedicated to New York hospitals

Rensselaer, NY – The Healthcare Association of New York State is pleased to present the 2020 Distinguished Service Award to Kevin Dahill, president and CEO of the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital Council and the Northern Metropolitan Hospital Association, both divisions of the Suburban Hospital Alliance of New York State. Dahill also serves as an executive vice president of the Healthcare Association of New York State.

“Kevin’s leadership has been crucial to our Long Island and Hudson Valley hospitals, and his expertise has proven invaluable to hospitals statewide,” said Bea Grause, RN, JD, president, Healthcare Association of New York State. “Kevin has helped our regional hospitals navigate through ever-changing and challenging times, most recently during this devastating pandemic. His steady leadership, consummate professionalism and effective advocacy have earned Kevin respect and accolades throughout the healthcare community and beyond. We could not be more grateful to have had Kevin in our corner.”

You can hear more about Dahill’s contributions from Grause and other healthcare leaders in HANYS’ 2020 Distinguished Service Award profile.

Dahill took the reins at NSHC in 2002 and assumed the leadership role of NorMet in 2010. The two regional associations officially formed SHANYS in 2012, with Dahill at the helm. Prior to his work at the associations, he served as president and CEO of New York United Hospital in Port Chester, New York, and previously held a variety of administrative positions over a 25-year period at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City.

Dahill has held several regional and national leadership posts. A member of the American College of Healthcare Executives, Dahill holds an MBA in management from Fordham University and serves as an adjunct professor at St. Peter’s College and St. Joseph’s College.

Dahill is retiring at the end of 2020; Wendy Darwell, currently vice president and chief operating officer, will assume the role of president and CEO of the regional associations effective Jan. 1, 2021. HANYS wishes Dahill well in his retirement and thanks him for his contributions, which have benefitted hospitals across the state.

HANYS’ Distinguished Service Award was established by the association’s board of trustees in 1979 to recognize individuals who have demonstrated outstanding personal service in the healthcare field in one or more of the following areas: patient welfare, hospital administration, residential healthcare administration, local and state healthcare organizations, public service and promotion of legislation relating to better healthcare. One individual receives the award each year.
