The Opioid Epidemic: Keeping Babies Safe

February 13, 2018

Noon - 1 p.m.

HANYS’ Statewide Opioid Addiction Prevention and Management Collaborative supports members’ efforts to improve the delivery of care to patients experiencing opioid addiction and manage the care of patients in crisis.

On this webinar, Dr. Bode will review the importance of how to approach pregnant patients with opioid exposure to the fetus; the importance of the prenatal consult, offering non-judgmental factual information and how to refer for appropriate follow-up. She will also discuss providing the prospective mother with information about the infant at birth, expectations during the hospital stay and ultimate discharge to home.

Dr. Kaufman will provide an overview of the ACOG District II Opioid Use Disorder in Pregnancy Initiative. The goal of this initiative is to increase education and awareness on evidence-based guidelines for the care of pregnant women with opioid use disorder. Through the development of an educational toolkit, ACOG District II seeks to help women’s health care providers be better equipped to effectively and compassionately support this vulnerable population.
