Long Island Community Hospital established the Brookhaven Breast Cancer Survivorship Program earlier this year to augment the breast cancer treatment services provided by their Brookhaven Breast Cancer Center. This patient-centric survivorship program offers free services to all women diagnosed with breast cancer within the 28 communities served by Long Island Community Hospital.
The mission of the Brookhaven Breast Cancer Survivorship program is to meet the non-medical emergent needs of each breast cancer patient during the diagnosis and treatment process, and to create community outreach and educational programs. The services available to each patient include providing wigs, lymphedema compression sleeves, grocery cards, housecleaning, transportation to treatment, and financial aid. This program also offers support groups, exercise programs, and "meditation 101" for women in treatment.
